Why, hello, little Child!
My name is White and I am a professional Old Salazar Vampire!
I'm 616 years old and I charge by the bite.
My life consists of headbangful music, Turning and partying. I'm addicted to create and I can't live without technology.
I'm constantly fighting myself and I'll ignore most of what you say. I like throwing jinxes at people who I dislike, but they don’t really work most of the time.
I'm a business person, as I've been all my life and you better not decoy me or otherwise try to lie to me in the Trading. I've said it.
The disclaimer? Old Salazars are MY species and copyrighted to me. You will NOT take them without asking me first.
Old Salazar Vampires (Also known as Old Slytherin Vampire)
History: These animals were first discovered by an old scientist, known only as Salazar.
He was studying mountain snakes when he found one of these animals whispering to it.
Intrigued, he dropped his investigation on the reptiles and studied the Old Salazar instead. He travelled all around the world studying their habits and when he finally caught one, it killed him.
Biology: Old Salazars are large animals, about 180 cm at the withers. This is about the size of a Shire draft horse. Their strength is also very much like that of a draft horse.
Old Salazars can live up to 60 years but males usually don’t reach this number.
Males are about 10 cm shorter than females.
Females carry only one cub in each pregnancy. The pregnancy lasts 12 months. The youngling is born with teeth (the cub is about the size of a foal), and will feed off his mother’s milk until one year of age. At 4 years of age, the mother will let go of the cub. At this time, he should be completely trained to hunt and live on his own.
With Old Salazars, no such thing as “Heat” exists. They’re either on the mood to mate or not. Crossbreeding with other canines, although possible, will result in a sterile subject lacking all of a purebred Old Salazar’s unique features (this does not include its size or composition, but rather it’s behaviour, markings, etc.)
Males usually kill off snakes and bring them to the females so they can judge their gifts and accept or decline them. The criterion varies from female to female. Some require large numbers of snakes offered, other judge on the size of the specimen’s offered, etc.
The build of these animals is unique. Fully developed subjects are either thin, fragile looking or thick, compact looking. This though, does not matter as far as strength goes. It’s not uncommon that a thinner subject should overpower a stronger looking one. Their size and body build is defined at birth and it’s in heritage from its parents. Thin subjects are the most common to find.
They have prominent ribcages, suited for large lungs, as they run and swim or large amounts of time. Their legs are long for covering large distances in small amounts of time. Necks are as long to reach the ground and their snouts thin, so they can sniff through small slits.
Their tails are small stubby, so they don’t get ripped off in fights and their nails are extremely long and though blunt, can bruise and wound deeply. Their teeth are long and pointy, almost razor sharp and can cut through most matter (subjects from the north have even stronger, sharper teeth to get through frozen meat). Their jaws close with a force of 250 kilograms and can smash any bone, snap any spine, and smash any skull, providing it fits their mouths.
Salazars are born with a slit tongue, much like that of a snake’s. Like snakes, they can smell and taste the air with them in for food or other living creatures.
The coats of these animals are thick and soft, longer on the neck area, creating a mane and on the under belly and thighs. Shown in a very wide range of greys, black and white, exceptions to this are very rare, though subjects with red markings have been spotted. Patterns vary with the location of the subjects.
Old Salazar’s eyes can be of any colour but mostly vary with their position on the globe. If they live in warm places, their eye colour will be of a warm tone and vice versa.
Old Salazars are rare. There’s only a few thousands (about 3,5/4) spread all over the world. They aren’t endangered or on the verge of extinction, they were few to start with.
The vampire Myth:
Since Salazar showed the people about these animals and their habits, they all in someway connected the Salazars with vampires because of the unique features featured bellow:
Salazars have the most awkward blood thirst. Many have been seen slay a whole heard of cattle only to drink the blood of the animals. They can (and prefer to) survive on blood rather than water.
They are vicious killers and sneak on their preys mostly at night. They dislike the sun to the point of remaining hidden for hours of heat in caves. Should the temperature hit high peaks, they can even leave a freshly hunt prey to go into hiding.
Old Salazar’s canine teeth are abnormally long and thick. They are semi-transparent and one can somewhat see through them.
They appear to never die, when in fact, very differently from most animals they heal very quickly. Injuries fatal to such animals as horses, such as breaking a leg, can heal on their own without losing performance in a month or two.
Behaviour:
Salazars are very intelligent creatures, falling behind primates only for their lack of opposable thumbs.
The most unique feature of these animals is their ability to mimic every sound they have ever heard. The first sound, the one they know since their birth is hissing/whispering, like a snake. Some even say that this is the real sound of an Old Salazar although they mostly communicate and express their feelings through guttural growls and howls.
They are capable of learning (not only mimicking) any type of speech, including that of a human’s, should they spend the necessary with one. Given the chance, and in the mood to, they can even carry out a conversation.
The real point to this ability is to help to hunting. The strategy used by Old Salazars most commonly is by ambushing their pray after calling for it with a sound they know will attract the victim.
Strangely, they have a by far preference for hunting snakes (dispite their horse size). Some people believe they choose such animals because they are vile and prefer to hunt on those who have features alike them, like the tongue.
Although there is this preference, Old Salazars can hunt on anything, even fish. On hard, cold winter or when there’s no other choice, Salazars can be seen eating dead corpses or peeling off trees and eating the bark.
They can go without food for weeks.
Salazar’s are not territorial animals. They can live 30 meter away from another Salazar as long as their presence doesn’t affect theirs. Should the other hunt on their prey or mess with the original owner, there WILL be a fight.
Old Salazars are selfish creatures, vicious and mean by nature. They are loners and any contact between other subjects of their species is violent, even when they mate.
Domesticated Salazars are extremely rare but there is proof that there are some. Though domesticated would not be the mot precise word.
In fact, it’s something very very different from “domesticating”. The Salazar will let itself stay near and take orders from humans only if it is profit for it.
They have been seen as pets and hunting mascots but never as work animals.
These cases are mostly seen in the North, even more so in older times, by powerful Landlords,
Old Salazars are very hard to catch and even more to contain or control. Usually, they don’t have to worry with human threats, as humans don’t usually mess with them. They will allow human presence for a short period of time and if they take interest in the human, they will let it stay for a little longer.
It’s wise to show respect at any time one meets a Salazar. A bow or an honest look into the creature’s eyes shall do.
Salazars are very vindictive creatures and should they be hurt or feel indigenised they will severely hurt, if not kill the offender.
